I had my k04 installed along with the GIAC k04 specific chip. My mechanic put in the FPR, and dialed it in at 5bar, I am now running really rich on the top end, how can I turn this FPR down? Where is it?
Please help me out, on the top end my car almost bogs.

I put the 5bar in because in stock form I was running lean.

What were the A/F ratios on the dyno? Doesn't make sense......

I haven't put the car on a dyno yet, but I just went outside and took off my engine cover, and found some sort of a leak in what appears to be cyclinder one. It's right next to the fpr. What the hell is that? It appears that this project might turn out to be a huge head ache.

If you haven't put the car on the dyno, how do you know it's running lean? Did you check the plugs after a hard run? Makes no sense why you added the FPR. The leak is from your injector seals.....unless the FPR itself is leaking......????...Put the stock reg back on.....

I theorized that the car was running lean because I would ping all over the place at high revs, and later get a check engine code. I don't have the stock fpr anymore my mechanic threw it out, now I'm aggravated. I know I can turn the one I have down to a 4 bar, do you think that would be enough?

Well, there could be a multitude of reasons why your car is pinging, running lean being one of them. Do you have a VAG? What codes have been thrown? Did your mechanic correctly install it? Exhaust leak? Wastegate line not connected? How many lbs of boost are you getting? Give us the details.....
My original problem in stock form was that my car was running lean. Now that that problem is all over I am now running really rich. There is a petro field growing on the end of my exhaust, and when you touch it you get a lot of what seems to be oil on your finger. My mechanic told me that I might be running rich and that I would have to bring the car in for adjustments, but running this rich can't be safe.
Anyone?
Really? Could you give me the name of somewhere I could order one? Or possibly some details on that, I know nothing about it only that it measures stoich.
He's a good guy, and told me to be wary of running rich, but he just wanted to make sure that I would run rich instead of lean with the new turbo. He's done quite a bit of work on Vw's, although I doubt much on a 1.8t. How do I install an A/R? do you have one? How much did it cost?
quote:

hehehe...i am dealing here with an EXP. turbo guy or a first timer????damn alll these kids with money and no knowledge about cars.....go to nopi.com or go to search engine and order you self one.....that the most important resource in fight againt detonation and your missing it...damn

gee, thanks for being so kind and helpful with your immense wisdom and knowledge.
Btw.. hows that BOV work on your 1.8T?
Thanks man, your a nice guy, and I appreciate the information. I'll check nopi out, this isn't an arguement, and yes I'm a first timer. ha. DBJ, can you tell me how I could install this a/r gauge?
OK, it's A/F Ratio, not a/r, as in Air/Fuel Ratio. For what it's worth the A/F Ratio gauges we(most enthusiasts) use are not very accurate. To be accurate you need to get a wide spectrum 02 sensor which is $500 itself, or measure the a/f when you are on the dyno.
Don't get me wrong here, I plan to install one of the common(cheap) a/f ratio gauges sometime this month. THey can be somewhat helpful, but you can't take them as gospel.
I can't really explain the differences well...call Matrix and talk to Josh, he can explain it. He tried to talk me out of installing mine, even though he'd be making $ installing.
Also, Matrix' GIAC KO4 kit inludes a higher FPR.
