Now I'm pissed, I just have the plain old key with no light. Anyways, if it's the type I'm thinking of, just slide a razor under the button and pop it off, there's a watch battery that makes contact with the light sensor when you push the button.

on the edge of the key there is a groove where the two pieces of plastic join. On one side there is a notch. Use a screwdriver and just pop it open.. I've never seen the battery that's in there before at any store, so you might have to order it.. Mine is running down as well.. but I want to put a white LED in there..

However, I found that when the light didn't work earlier, the inside was dirty, filled with lint and stuff from my pocket. I cleaned it and it worked pretty well for a little while. Maybe I will try this again tonight. You might want to try this before you go through the hassle of trying to get a battery, which I was told they don't make.
If you need a battery go over to the passat forum and ask what those with B4's do when their key light goes out.

When my light stopped working I just opened it up and cleaned all the contact points real well and presto, it works great again.

i heard you could get these keys blank from the dealer to fit into older cars like my g-60 corrado. anybody know which models key blank is the same? i would definatly use the light.
also, my gf's cabrio has a key missing the button and the battery. i should go to dealer to see how much for new keys for it.
prob too much for a $5 flashlight.

Has anyone ever changed the bulb in these keys? What bulb is a replacement? I have an AH code key for my '91 GLI but the bulb is broken. I have checked at Radio Shack but did not see one that looked like a match. I have seen new key blanks on e-bay from germany for $45 (they have the "16V" or "G60" logo on them), but If I can get a new key from the dealer for $14, why not?
