I have been watching the evolution of the modern day supra to see these 600 to 900 hp beasts emerging. These supras are pretty much a rear wheel drive car with a bulletproof toyota straight 6 engine and some huge turbos (yeah I know there's more to them but you get my drift). A lot of these Supras range from 1993 upwards and they seem to be quite formidable cars.
Looking at the european stable of cars, I was looking for a similar style car (bulletproof 6 cyl and rear wheel drive) such that one could apply similar ideas. One of the better examples I found was the BMW M3. Could the same type of formula applied to the Supra, be applies to '94 or beter M3 with similar results?
What do you figure, do you think it be reasonable to see a 600 to 900 hp M3 running amoung these huge hp Supras?

Well, there's Gene Liu with his 700hp M3. There's an interview with him.. http://www.evotuners.com/liu.htm
And I remember reading somewhere on the web, about him building a 1200hp M3.

I doubt you'll see results on the M3 like you would on a Supra. I highly doubt the stock shortblock is up to making 150 mph passes in the 1/4. It will also take a lot of trick ECU tuning probably, unless you're supercharging a 95 M3. Regardless, the best bet would be to go DFI/stand alone with it.

PowerHaus builds 92-95 Porsche 968's with I-4 Turbo Engines making up to 800HP. RWD. 3.0L 16V DOHC Turbo I-4..they make 305HP and 350HP in stock forms...Turbo S and Turbo RS....

quote:

Exactly, 500 crank hp compared to some Supras making 700+ bolt on rwhp. I know some Supras with cams and headwork push over 850 rwhp.

Lovely engine.
No offense inteneded, but I think the question answers itself. The 2JZ-GTE is just a bullet-proof motor that makes monster power with a little work. Asking why the M50 doesn't do the same thing is like asking why one motor performs in in a different way from another... they're different motors.
Your question is similar to asking why a 1.8T cna be made to make 300 hp on stock internals while an SR20DET can make 500 on stock internals and a B16A can only make 240hp with a turbo and stock internals.
The 2JZ comes with an an indestructable bottom end that can withstand 700hp. The M50 does not. The 2JZ is similar in performance to the legendary RB26DETT, but that also resonds differently.

Jeez, somebody needs a strut tower bar.
Audi's 2.3 litre inline-5 20v engine can make 300hp for not alot of money. 1200hp is the upper limit.
I think Dahlback's RSI "Golf" which is nothing more than a Type 44 Audi quattro chassis with Golf body, makes 900hp from an Audi inline-5.
Re: Killer supras? How about killer BMW M3? (TabulaRasa)
What exactly would a strut tower do to help this E30 M3 battle on the strip?
that doesnt mean I don't agree that the car should have one, but its probably not part of helping him do what he wants so its just extra weight.
As for E36 M3s being Supra killers? not going to happen. Sorry, the BMW Motor is really not designed to take that kind of boost, and while it can be built up to 4-500 hp from Active Autowerke, its incredibly expensive. If you want to go fast down the strip, buy either a Murrican V8 or a Supra. The E36 M3 was declared the best handling car in America 2 years in a row, not the fastest.
