I am not sure about the ME 7.x motronic you have....
BUT, this is what i do on the M 5.9 Motronic ecu (mk3 vr6)
I log load and rpm. (I use 104) 104 has ONLY load and rpm data
more data = slower sample rate.
I log block 045, which shows me how much ignition retard is being
applyed to each cylinder (only 1-4 in my case).
Typically you'll see zero's except under high stress / bad gas
situations. If you hear pinging its becasue you have already reached
the maximum retard and need MORE timing pulled. (~15 deg max
retard)
You can also log knock sensor voltage, but this is USELESS
at vag-com's 'slow' sample rate. You need to sample these
~XXk per sec. to be of any use....
