Knock sensor with 8.5 to 1 comp.?

563 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  eurotrashrabbit
I picked up a knock sensor setup in anticipation of a turbo install down the road(way down the road at the rate i'm going http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif)
Question: Would the knock box be beneficial(more aggressive advance curve?) with the stock JH at 8.5 to 1? Any negatives?
Thanks,
Steve

I'd like to know also... Picked up a KS also in preps for either a turbo or ABA. Any benefits for taking the time to hook it up now?

Don't think the KSI will help in your motor. It listens for knock in high comp (>10.1:1?) motors and retards timing (in steps) until knock goes away. I don't think an aggressive advance curve will generate detonation.

G60's are 8.5 comp and knock sensing. Knock sensor ignition is good for 3 things- 10:1 or higher, Boost or N20. If you dont have one or more of these things you dont need it.

I was under the impression that the KS setup would run the ignition at the max advance poss. without detonation. Kind of continuously adjusting to provide best performance instead of vac.adv. with a set curve.

just retards when needed

It has a built in electronic base curve. Retards base timming when knock is present, but does not change the base curve.

It also depends on the gas you run for a turbo set up you can run 11lbs of boost with 108 oct on an 8.5:1 motor Look at Corky Bells book maximum boost
