Race Dezign (N. Portland), do they do that stuff?
What about FasTrack (Beaverton...are they even still in business???) or GroundZero(82nd across from Madison HS)?
You have friends?

I have had several friends that have had work done at Fastrack and they do really good work and have tons of JDM spec motors.
I seriously would send your friends south to have the work done on both cars as there is not a lot of people that do that sorta stuff around here.
The Supra in the Fast and the Furious was a built in Vancouver, and the headquarters for the North America Supra Club is located in Vancover as well, but the guy that did the work is a privatere and does not have a shop.
At the Nostalgia Races last year at PIR there were probably like 40+ Supras there. Most were all the single turbo conversions etc and putting out 500+hp.
Fastrack specializes in Honda stuff, I mean they make their bread and butter off of swapping motors in Hondas. If you go into their shop you will see 30+ JDM spec motors linning their garage.
Race Dezign does some work on motors but is not specialized enough to do what your friends want.
I mean from what you have said seems as though they want some serious motor stuff done and if that is the case I would be happy to hook you up with some friends. I met a lot of people last year in L.A and also in Houston that do some impressive work. If you friends are looking to do some serious mods then that is the way to go. This shop in Houston has produced some of the fastest Supras in the world.
If the cars are NA and looking to go turbo then that for sure is the way to go. If they are looking for intakes/exhaust then Race Dezign is for sure the place to go here locally.
A friend of mine works at a shop in L.A that specalizes in nothing but 240 performance. From motor transplants to full skyline conversions. They built a 10 sec street car that is insain!~!
If you want send me an e-mail and I will get you in contact with them.
Re: Know anyone that does Japanese makers engine swaps???? (crazy-legs)
if you wanna come up more north, i would recomend garage spl, as they have some very sick cars, not sure if they do swaps, but i would guess so......they have like 3 skylines, sick supra, and a sick TT rx-7, but again im not sure if they do swaps

I'd say stay away from Race Dezign, Freddy the guy who owns it just started doing swaps early last year. He did a Frankenstein for a buddy of mine, and when my friend got it back he found out that the VIN number was ground off the block, the tranny had a messed up 3rd and 4th gear syncro, it leaked/ate oil like crazy, and to top it all off, Fred didn't even know how to hook up VTEC. I'd stay away from there, but I've heard very good things about Fastracks.
Re: Know anyone that does Japanese makers engine swaps???? (Nite Ryder)
It is always a crap shoot when you buy motors from people to transplant. You never know if the motor or trans is going to be bad or not, Fastrack is the same.
I would be willing to be money that unless your friend supplied the motor for installation that Fred got the motor/brain/trans from Dan (the owner of Fastrack). Dan gets them from his contact in Japan
Fred is a great guy and I am more then possitive if something was not working right that he would be happy to fix it.
I guess that I am confused by your Vtec comment. Are you saying that Fred did not hook up the selonoid that activates Vtec? Vtec needs no wiring unless you are installing a Vtec controller.
I am not sure what car that your buddies motor went into but just about anyone that knows anything about true Honda perfromance knows that the LS/Vtec is not a good idea.
Sure the torque is a lot of fun, and it is a really cheap way to get power, but they are known for how much oil they eat on a consistant basis. Most fail within weeks of them being put together.
As far as wiring goes the only wiring that would need to be done would be replacing the wiring harness and ECU if you were putting that motor into a non-Vtec car.
It would be like taking a Z28 motor and putting it into a Nascar and taking it to Talledaga and trying to run 200mph. It is the same motor but the internals are not made to rev to 9,500rpm, so it is going to fail. Same with putting a Vtec head on an LS block.
You would not know that the syncros in the trans were bad until you actually installed it and see how it drove, or stripped the trans down and evaluated them and replaced the worn ones before you installed it.
I have seen the same problems come out of transplants that Fastrack has completed and all you can do is change them out and fix the problem.
