Ko4?

I've done a search on this particular topic but i cant seem to find the answers that i need. Im fairly new to the turbo scene, since it is my first turbo car. I was wondering what else would be needed to do a upgrade to a KO4, besides the KO4 itself.
I did read somewhere all you need is a good mechanic and the turbo, what if its me doin the installation?

Re: Ko4? (GoGTIGo)

A full gasket kit with crush washers and new turbo studs for the down pipe should be all you need. If you have an AWW motor you need a new turbo inlet pipe as your stocker will not fit unless machined. After that it's simply software you need.

You'll need K04 turbo, possibly new turbo studs (much easier than trying to take yours off) Turbo-manifold gasket, turbo-downpipe gasket, 4 crush washers for the coolant line, 2 crush washers for the oil line, oil line-turbo gasket, 2 small hose clamps (one for the wastegate one for the inlet pipe) possibly new inlet pipe (if you have AWW engine your inlet pipe won't work on the K04) 1 gallon of pink coolant from the dealership (you might try saving the one from the car but just about all of it drains out...)
I'd recommend a 3" DP and 3" cat, appropriate programming for the turbo.
As far as tools - you'll need 5mm and 8mm hex - if you can get them with wobble heads it will help you a lot. Also a full set of sockets and wrenches will be helpful
Hope this helps - just put my K04 on Friday

Damn - Rodney beat me to it

Re: Ko4? (Gambit)

ok that helps alot guys. ok so both of you say taht i inlet pipe is need for an AWW, but since mine is a AWD, i dont need it? Is it better to do anyway?
If anyone did the install themselves, how long did it take and how much of a PITA was it?
Re: Ko4? (GoGTIGo)

Depending on your skill level, and number/type/quality of your tools, a rough guess would be 6-10hours for the install.........
Re: Ko4? (GoGTIGo)

since you have AWD you don't need the inlet pipe but if you were to look at it compared to the ABD (or Neuspeed for that matter) you'll see why you would rather get it

The job was rather straight forward considering I watched and assisted Rodney (handing him tools LOL) with his K03 re-install... Took myself and one of my best friends a little over 6 hours to uninstall the old turbo and exhaust manifold and install the new ones (I had a ported manifold I put on). On the other hand my friend has worked on rallye cars in Europe for about a year but he had never done a VW before.

Re: Ko4? (Gambit)

if you dont mind me askin, how much did the whole set up cost?
Re: Ko4? (GoGTIGo)

Someone should sell a "ghetto K04" kit. It would include a turbo and just the basic minimum parts (studs, gaskets, crush washers). Maybe like $900.
Re: Ko4? (GoGTIGo)

You can get a K04 from Jaime Pacquing <[email protected]> for $800USD you will have to get the rest of the stuff from a stealership.
Re: Ko4? (tobyc)

Complete gaskets studs and all runs about $40-60 depending on how much the dealership hates you!

You sound very bitter Rodney!! Go is your car chipped yet? Cause if it is I know certain chip tuners give you a discount on their k04 kit/software if you upgrade.

Re: Ko4? (VWMike81)

Just a quick question...with the K04 in...what type of gas mileage are you looking at?!?!? Just wondering...
Re: Ko4? (Kei78)

Could someone provide all the part numbers for the stuff needed from the dealership?
Re: Ko4? (megadome)

mike, i want to get it chipped, but you said you were going to host something. i was waiting for that and i was also waitin to get a little bit more mula to get the forge DV.
you think that certain tuner would do everything, including the KO4?
Re: Ko4? (GoGTIGo)

I talked to a certain tuner and they said even though I already have a GIAC K03 program it would cost me $695 to upgrade to the K04 software

Re: Ko4? (footose)

The install cost you $1200 !!! How many hours were they working on your car? At $65/hour that's like 18 hours.

Re: Ko4? (tobyc)

I think he did the install himself - that's the cost of parts...
BTW My install is done and I have my car back with The Upsolute chip for K04

That's what I'm hoping
How do you like the Upsolute software. Keep us updated. Other than adding the K04 what else did you change. Did you change the FPR, fuel pump, injectors?
