landspeed's "mikro-audio" ?

i just read about this on this site:
http://www.beetlebuzz.com/hitroad/mikro.html
i'm also reading the technical spec and install instruction pdf files on landspeed's site (www.landspeedusa.com). does anyone here have any opinions and/or firsthand experience with this system? it seems to have a lot of things going for it: compact size, easy installation, customized for your application, and they provide all the tools, parts, and instructions to do the install. the only real question is: how good is the sound?
thanks,

hmmm... i guess either no one knows anything, or it's old news that no one wants to post about anymore. anyway, i found lots of relevant threads on the tdi club forums. mostly positive reviews so far. here's an example thread, for any of you who are curious:
http://forums.tdiclub.com/NonCGI/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=19;t=000039
apparently, this product has been out a couple of years now. it originally came in the 8" sub version only, and allowed a "3 dB upgrade" card for $25, which i guess replaced the low-end crossover with one with a higher cutoff. it sounds like that "upgrade" is now standard on all their systems, and they now offer a 10" sub as well. anyway, it sounds like an excellent solution for those of us who want to upgrade our non-monsoon systems without sacrificing trunk space and spending thousands for parts and installation. of course, a system would probably sound a whole lot better with thousands of dollars invested, but i think that's a compromise many are willing to make.
landspeed currently sells the 8" version for $625 and the 10" version for $725.
i also found the 8" version for $570 at:

i like what i've read about the product so far, but the price is a tad steep for what basically amounts to a specialized amp/sub combo. would anyone here be interested in some kind of groupbuy? there was a recent groupbuy for several body parts through landspeed -- perhaps they would be willing to do the same for this product. anyway, post here if you're interested, or if you have more information on this thing. i'll email landspeed if there's enough interest.
thanks!

fyi, i talked to dan at landspeed, and they don't have enough inventory to do a gb right now. maybe in a month... but from the deadness of this thread (i'm just posting to myself here), i'm not sure there'd be enough interest anyway. i'll contact dan and maybe post a feeler thread next month -- that is, if i haven't already bought it by then.
thanks for reading!

Hi. I was looking at Landspeed's mikro-audio, but I'm feeling that the price they are asking is a little steep. I think most of the stealthy type sub enclosures out there are going to cost upwards of $500. However, I'm still keen on getting a sub without sacrificing too much trunk-space. I might be interested in a GB if the price is right.
I found this on the MkIV forum. Someone made their own spare-tire sub enclosure that manages to have enough room for a spare tire. I don't know about sound quality, but for around $100 for the enclosure, it might be worth a look. Here's the thread: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=238037
He made the enclosure out of a sonotube. You use your own components. He said that he can make one that will fit under the 16" oem spare.

yep, i saw that thread. in fact, i think that thread was my initial lead to finding out about the landspeed kit. i think that home-built enclosure is great work, and although he can build one for me for $100, i'd still have to buy my own woofer, amp, wiring, crossovers, etc. installation will also be a bigger hassle. it's something i'm considering, but i'm thinking there may be better options (for me) out there.
the beauty of the landspeed kit is that it's not just a sub/amp combo. their amp is built specifically for this application, so it's got built-in crossovers for the sub and stock speakers, and is tuned for the sound dynamics of your particular vehicle. it comes with wiring harnesses that allow you to plug the stock HU output and stock speaker inputs directly into the amp, so there's no cutting, splicing, or soldering. the sub is built specifically to work well in the spare tire well with the trunk floor over it (in fact, they warn against using the sub outside of those conditions). it comes with detailed install instructions and tools (radio removal keys and a torx driver) to do the install. it even comes with a bag to hold the tools that would normally go in the spare tire well. all told, it sounds like this kit is a very well thought out product which offers the greatest overall improvement for its price. the only disadvantage is that it is not a component system, so any further upgrades are not as cost effective. personally, i'm willing to try this system out, and worry about further upgrades later on (if i'm still not satisfied). that's the advantage of a plug-and-play system: it's easily and completely reversible.
i wonder why i haven't heard about this system before... maybe because it's old?

Well, I read through the reviews on the TDIclub and am quite impressed by this mikro-audio thing. But to my dismay, after going to landspeed's website, I found that it isn't available for Monsoon systems at this time.
I'm going to call Landspeed and see if they're going to release anything for this soon. Looks like there won't be simple plug and play for me.
