I have a '92 jetta. over the fall, i had transaxels replaced at Les Schwab. a few days later, this weird vibration was coming from the area of my tranny. i took it to my friendly neighborhood Les Schwab and they said everything was fine. i still noticed the vibration later that day and i stopped by a transmission shop. After looking at my car, the shop tech came to me and asked me who last touched the bolts on my transaxels. I asked him why and he said "cause they should be shot." Appearantly, half the bolts on one were MISSING and the rest on that side were finger loose. the other side wasn't finget loose but they weren't tight either. My last car, and audi 4KQ, i had a wheel fly off while driving cause Schwab didn't tighten the lugs on it. The fixed all that though and i was luckily only going about 10 MPH at the time as I had just left a stop sign. Now, just the other day, i took a little roadtrip and near the end, there was a thuding, grinding noise coming from the front end. (this is on the Freeway at 80MPH) At first, i thought it was my CV joint. Maybe not having all the bolts had screwed something up and it had just gone out. I limped to the nearest transmission shop where the tech quickly found that not the axels, but the TWO loose wheels were making the sound. basically, my lugs all have a key, (like a giant allen wrench on one end and a regular lug on the other.) and the tech found that EVERY lug on BOTH front wheel was FINGER LOOSE. he could take all 8 off w/ his hand and the key. and i was just going 80 MPH for about 150 miles and 120MPH the other 50 w/ a Toyota Supra twin turbo. That is just shotty business. Lugs need to be torqued. which is something i do everytime i have anyone work on my car at home but i'm at college now and i don't have my torque wrench here. Just because, why doesn't everyone write out their horror stories w/ Les Schwab. I have their attention now (they're aligning my wheels and giving me half off my next tire purchase) and i could bring in some complaints and maybe it will get passed up the line and they will change their ways. (BTW, those three things were three different shops.)
