light tapping up to 4000 rpm and then it suddenly stops, seems like loss of power

I have a accelerating tapping noise up to 4000 rpm, and then it stops and power feels like it surges after 4000 rpm. I have a 2000 VR6 Jetta
I heard something like the new variable intake flap or something of that sort?
Anybody else have this problem or experience?
I'm taking it in for 24,000 mile service next week (2/12/02)

I also have a 2000 jetta vr6 and am experiencing knocking/tapping/clicking type sound up to 4000 rpm. I think its their after that but then I cant hear it over my engine. I have 50k miles.

I just replied to this same topic for someone else, it was a rotary change over valve in the intake manifold, they replaced it under warranty!!
