While on a relaxation drive (read: 90 mph+ on empty backroads) I decided to try a small drift. First time at this, I decide (very stupidly, I might add) to try it at 72 mph. Well, I flicked the wheel left, then hard right with a WOT and got my drift; right into the center lane which had gravel all over it. What insued was massive oversteer to the tune of 90 degrees and then some, a let up on the gas, the tail end whipping back around to about 30-45 degrees the other way, then some gas, and the car straightening itself out. OMG was it fun, but OMG was it dangerous and very stupid. Last time I try that at that speed. BTW, this is a 2.0 and stock suspension.
Before I get horribly flamed, it was at 2am, open road in central PA, I KNOW it was stupid and I'm not condoning it or anything. Said my piece.
(edit: flame conditions)

It's all good! One morning I came, to work, but I REALLY didn't want to work, so instead I did a 180 in the parking lot (1 or 2 cars parked at the other end). It's was fun. Then day just seemed to get a whole lot better.

Maybe I'll try that. This day is looking pretty bad already. Woke up 8:30 for an 8 o'clock class. My alarm was set for 7:00, went off of over an hour and a half with me even budging. NOT a good way to start off.

I think we all like to f around a little now and then.
But you probably won't know real fear till your driving normal at 60 and you skid on black ice, hit the middle of the highway, and roll over 3 times down a hill and come to rest on your roof......and to top it all off, your trapped in the car and no one knows because the car is too far off the road.

the whole drifting thing is gettin a little out of hand, its pretty hard to get out cars to do it, let alone ones with stock suspensions, I don't really see what the big deal is, but maybe its just me, sure I'd love to try doin it in an m3 or something, but thats not going to happen anytime soon

I know for me, it's the smile factor. Drifting a car is almost like controlling the uncontrolable (i know, oxymoron). You are pushing your car to the limit of sliding completly around and yet you are turning around a corner also. I know it's not the fastest way around the corner (unless a loose surface like mud or gravel is involved a la Rally) but it is sooo much fun. I would also love to do it in a high torque rwd car, but I think it's interesting as hell to find out what our cars will and will not do. I found out that my car can handle 70+ mph moves like that and not flip over or destroy the car. I will try it when I get a suspension on it and see what it feels like. Just my .02
