Re: loads a problems (Rob - golf 16v)

Uhh...no

Where's the oil leak?
Where's the coolant leak?
Are your door cards mushy?
Leaks are easy to fix...99% of the time
You could probably take it to a mechanic and it wouldn't cost that much if you went to someone who knew their VW's very well....

Re: loads a problems (Rob - golf 16v)

water in the front footwell could be two things
1) plastic sheet in door has unsealed itself (take the door cards off and you'll see
2) water coming from base of windshield (or windscreen?
) could be rust...

I know how to diagnose not fix, but I believe that the rail that you lay the windshield on rusts. THis might make it difficult to replace the windshield in the future as the rust may come up with the old winshield leaving you with nothing to hold and seal your new one. My dad had to replace the cracked winshield from our previous car 5 years after purchase... it was already showing signs of serious rust, but manageable. It's a VW problem...
If there is anybody who has experience with this first hand, then speak up!
BTW, I don't want to scare anybody...

No actually if it is only on the passenger side your best bet is that the drain hole in the rain tray are plugged. If you opent the hood and pull back the black plastic covers up by the windshied you'll see a grill that allows fresh air into the car and right next to that there should be a hole in the fender wall. Unfortunately when the hole in the fender wall gets plugged it acts as a damn and water builds up and flows into the car making a wet mushy mess on the passenger side. Just use a metal coat hanger and make sure that the hole is not plugged. Also, test it by dumping a cup of water over there to make sure it is working. Good luck!
