Just a little reminder to all of you, that there are a lot of idiots on the road so be careful!
I was driving yesterday with two girls in my GTI. We were talking and listening to a CD. I was waiting at an intersection (Yonge and Eglinton) and the light turns green. Me and the car beside me start to drive through.
All of a sudden out of the corner of my eye I see the car beside me stop violently and honk his horn. Out of pure instinct I slammed on my brakes too. In that split second I didn't know why we were stopping I just did. In fact I stopped so fast, I didn't even have time to put the clutch in and stalled the car.
A split second later a car travelling the other way goes flying past both of us, missing our front bumpers by mere inches. This car totally ran a red (I mean it was actually green for us!) This wasnt' just a case of someone running a yellow.
Anyway, I litterally saw my life (and my GTIs life) flash in front of my eyes. It felt like a scene from one of those Driniking and Driving commercials where everyone is having fun and then "BAM!" they're all dead.
To be totally honest it scared the crap out of me. It also made me so mad. I wanted to chase the driver down, pull him out of the car and beat the crap out of him, but I was with ladies and we were late for a movie. (And also I'm a lover not a fighter.)
Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know there are a lot of idiots out there, so do what your parents taught you and always look both ways before going through an intersection. I know I will.
ps. The only good news is, Yonge and Eglinton is one of those intersections that has a red light camera at, so hopefully that guy will get a fine in the mail.

Re: Look Both Ways Before You Cross the Street! (hawc)

I live right at Yonge/Eglinton, and I wasn't aware of the red light camera...I'll probably be getting a few tickets in the mail

But I always enter the intersection while the light is yellow...what are the rules with that?

I always look both ways... I know how you felt after it happened... it's a really f-ed up feeling...

Glad u listened to yer instincts! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

It's good that you stopped in time. It would have been a total mess yeah. Good thing the car beside you honked his horn too.
There are a ton of idiots on the road today, I was driving to school and some old bastard in his new hyundai sedan (the most expensive one i forget the model number) cuts me off by a couple inches and then guns it only to slam on his brakes behind a toyota echo at a red light which in turn causes me to slam on my brakes.
People with bad driving etiquette =

Some people think they're invincible no matter what the situation. Once they get in an accident though, oh boy does it hit them hard. Unfortunately, most of the time there are innocent people involved.
I see this lady on the 401 every once in a while in her Jetta with personalised plates. She always used to drive so aggresively (a really stupid scary aggressive). Zigzagging from one lane to the other, without getting anywhere, and in the meantime cutting people off in the fast line without signalling. My boyfriend saw her car at a body shop in Kitchener a few months ago, which was no surprise to me. I guess she's back on the roads cause I just saw her car again today. Boy has she changed her style of driving. She was actually in the middle lane going at 110km.

WOW -
thank God you are okay......trust me what goes around comes around....I live by that rule. The guy will be caught sooner or later, or worse things can happen..I just hope no innocent people pay for it.
Look at me recently I have been speeding like an A$$ ( for the past month) and today I got a ticket for 76 in a 50....like I said what goes around comes around....

at least in a VW, #1 - you can get out of the way quickly if you have to, and #2 - if you DO get hit you've got a better chance than in many other cars.
i had the displeasure of being a 1.6el driver for a year - scary when you mash the pedal to get out of someone's way and NOTHING happens....

Hawc, I would've flipped if that happened to me.
I didn't know there was a "red light camera" at that intersection. I guess it's something to keep in mind...not that I make a habit of running through yellows at Yonge/Eglinton.

quote:

That is exactly why I never proceed through an intersection without looking both ways first. I have avoided many accidents that way http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
