OK - here's the info:
1997 Jetta GLX VR6
50K miles
Dark Blue with Taupe leather
Heated seats
Power Moonroof
Power everything (std?)
No keyless (wasn't this standard?)
No CD changer
Everything functional and working
New Tires - though they are an off-brand
New Brakes (so they say - but they feel good)
Body in excellent shape - no dings, nicks, scratches
Sloppy shifter (would probably put a shift kit in it anyway)
Asking $9,900
I think I can get it for $9,500.
What do you think? Should I go for it?
If I do get it, I'll need to sell my wife's 89 525 (slow), and have a little bit of convincing to do - even though this car is FAR superior to this BMW in EVERY way.

Re: Looking at 97 Jetta GLX - is this a good deal? (mercadon)

sounds like a good price, I would check the blue book price to see what it says. I think it is the windsor blue, I don't know how rare that is. I wouldn't worry about the stuff you are going to change anyways (tires) Look at the whole car and see what they have for maintnance records. Milage seems about right.
Good luck

Sounds great!
1) Keyless was not standard on the 97s.
2) Get the VIN and call your insurance company, they can do a far better accident search than carfax.

It's got a VR6, uncommon color, and decent mileage.
How come you haven't bought it yet?
