Okay so I am looking at buying a used 2001 Acura MDX, like the fact that it can seat 7 if it has to, but I have been reading horror stories about transmissions going bad left and right. Is there reason for concern or should I take this with a grain of salt? Anybody have experience with these cars?

I don't know about that gen. My mom has an 04 and hasn't had too many problems. Not too many miles on the car but the biggest repair was something relating to the brakes.

There's a reason the resale is so low. Have $4000+ ready to go at any time for a tranny. Friend of mine just went through this and it was nearly $4500.

the battery is severely undersized, leave the key on for more than a few minutes and your walking. Its terrible.

My Wife's '02

Rebuilt the tranny and replaced torque converter at AAMCO for about $2k at 80K miles. Dealer was worthless as usual. Other than that it's been great. Smooth, comfortable, quiet.

Right now she's looking at a used '07-'08 Cadillac SRX. They're nice, but mucho more money.

Transmission problems were fixed for the 2004 MY. If you're looking for an MDX you want 2004+. I wouldn't touch an 01-03 with a ten foot pole.

That's pretty cheap...probably too cheap. I'd be a pretty skepical. Best get a thorough PPI.
