looking for a new car please help.

I'm looking around for a car that is new to me. Ive been drivng my nova for far too long. I like the look of i think its the 91 92 golf with the round Headlights. I think it has the 16v 1.8 motor. But what i am wondering is does this car typically have any major problems like electrical or mechanical. before i buy one i want to know everything about them. im doing a search to find what i can but any help would be appreciated.

I was looking for help from someone besides my smart a$$ed best friend. Even though i do like his idea. but i wonder about the condition of the rest of the car

Ed,
These cars are pretty simple and therefore have no real *major* issues. The 16v motor is near bullet-proof, with the only enemy being a broken timing belt (interference engine). If you find one that is a good car, I wouldn't hesitate in buying it.
There are two versions of the 16v GTi: the early 1.8L (up to '89), and the later version being a 2.0L (91-92). There are a quite a few other differences as well....
