Looking for advise: 1998 Audi A3 with 1.8L. What to expect?

Hi people!
I am thinking of getting myself an Audi A3 with 1.8 engine (non-turbo).
It has 130k km on it. Car has all service logs and drives beautifly.
Does anyone know what sort of troubles to expect: engine, tranny, suspension ?

See when the last time the timing belt was replaced. It needs to be changed every 60,000 miles or 100,000Km
Other than that, you should ask the Car Lounge or the Golf/Jetta forums. Audi A3's are not sold in the USA, although they are based on the same chassis as the Mk IV. Golf/Jetta/Bora.

Are you sure about that? The change interval on the 1.8T is 105,000 miles. I can't imagine it is that much lower for the non-turbo.

A guy on the A4/S4 forums on the Vortex had his 1.8T TB go at 70k miles. This was after the dealer told him it didn't need to be replaced until 90k. Now he needs a new 20v head. $$$$!

PS Isn't that the same 1.8 engine that has been used in Mk II Jetta but with a diffrerent head ?

The 1.8T and 1.8 20v are brand new designs dating back to the mid 1990s.
