Re: Looking for an Autothority "259K" chip for testing... (Marty)

how do you know it's a 259k? I bought an Autothority chip from GPR for my old 96 Gti VR6, and then swapped it into my 98. Wasn't sure if it'd work, but I haven't had a problem with it in over a year now. Would we get a deposit too? In case you don't send it back?

Your ECU code is on the outside of your ECU box. Autothority should have asked you for it when you purchased the chip. Many of the chips are compatible in multiple ECUs so it's often not a problem. The "259K" seems to be very common in the 96-97s, chances are yours was one.
I'm not going to steal your Autothority chip, I have a supercharger.

what part of the number am I looking for? will it be the first part of the number? I ordered it from GPR way back when Nathan still worked there(like 2 years ago) He asked me for the number, and then sent me the chip. What are you gonna test? See if the chip will work with your charger? I might do it, have to take it out anyways, need to get my car to the dealer so they can test my converter, don't want to take the chances of voiding the federal warranty. Lemme know how to check and I'll look tomorrow(too dark outside now, and I'm at work anyways)

Well the number you'd be looking for would be on your old '96 ECU box... but there should be a number on your current box on the outside, three number groups and a letter I believe, kinda like XX XXX 259 K or something like that.
Regarding the chip, I want to see what timing it runs, which will only take a quick couple of data logging runs, then I'm done.

What's the ETA on you taking it out?

Sorry, I don't know all the various abbreviations on this site yet. ETA is what? Meaning how long it takes to pull it out? about 5 minutes

Not sure, I'll either pull it out tomorrow(depending on if I wake up early or sleep in since I don't have to be to work until 11 and no school tomorrow) or on Saturday. then I'll have to get your address and ship it. I'll stick it in the lil blue case that it came in. Hopefully the post office won't charge me, i'm just gonna stick it in a normal envelope, too bad you can fax things over phone lines yet
that'd be sweet. anyways, I dunno, probably end of next week. oh yeah, gotta find my stock chip too before I do any of this...always seem to misplace it

sorry, the chip had a few prongs break off when I pulled it out
gonna try to send it back to Autothority to get a new chip that is correct for my year(should make my car run better than with an improper years chip) Hey, actually, they had a disclaimer on their website(just looked there today) you can order one, and if you aren't satisfied with it, return it for your money back! Why don't you try that? You have 30 days to return it. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I can't image that they could offer such a policy on chips... I bet they don't honor it!
