Looking for thick carpet for drivers side floor mat.

I enjoy driving without my shoes on, especially on long drives (3+ hrs) and well, the carpet for my new passat doesn't seem to have enough padding where my heel rests.
Anyone have a recommendation for a replacement carpeted floor mat for the 2002 Passat that is has lots of padding for the heal?
My mom got a replacement mat from Mercedes once on our 300TD '81 wagon that had a nice thick (~1in) rectangle of carpet right where the right heel ends up with a normal carpet all around. I think it was for driving with high heel shoes on.

Are the Weather tech Mats an exact fit for the Passat? Looking at the picture it looks like they are different especially around the foot rest area.

Any idea if they are connected by anything more than gravity to the floor of the car?

Answered my own question: Just Gravity

Dear Mr. Hunt,
Thank you for your e-mail inquiry. Currently our carpeted floor mats will
not accomodate the factory clips that hold your OEM mats in place.
Depending on what type of clips they are, there are some vehicles that will
allow for our mats to fit inside them, but on the majority of the vehicles,
the mats will lay directly on top of the clips.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to call us direct at

Sincerely,

You might try autoseattle.com Bought mats from them when I got my Passat
about 5 months ago. Fit great, clean easily, clamp to the existing clip points. They'll send carpet color samples before purchase. Chose great colors, you can try their #137 Euro gray.
