Re: Lots of pics of my new '02 GLX in Blue Anthracite/Black (Shipwreck)
quote:

Long story on the name....Anywho, I know exactly where Bernardi is, I've poked around there a couple of times. They don't seem to have a large number of cars on the lot, however their web site always lists a fairly large number of Passats in inventory. Do you know if they keep their cars elsewhere?
How were they with the dealer swap? Were they still accomodating price-wise even though the car wasn't coming off their lot?

As Mr. Bouton said, they do have many cars offsite at a satellite lot. As for the price, my car was originally an order. I placed an order, and after 2 weeks I decided I didn't want to wait, so I had them locate a car. The price didn't change at all for the swapped car. They did want to charge me $200 extra, but I said I didn't want to pay that because when I placed the order originally, I specifically asked whether or not it would be a problem if I decided to just have them locate a car versus waiting for my ordered car to come in. They said no problem, since they wouldn't have a problem selling the Blue Anthracite/Black 5-speed GLX that I ordered.
They also never mentioned anything at that time about me paying anything extra if I did decide to have them locate one instead. So when it came time to locate one, and the sales manager tried to tack on the $200, I reminded my sales guy that I had that conversation with one of the sales managers before (may not have been the same sales manager, as they have 2 or 3 there), and that was that. They dropped the request for the extra $200. The swap car was way out in upstate NY, probably 150 miles or so away. So between having the driver drive all the way there and back, it was practically an all day affair. They have to pay these drivers, so I didn't think it was unfair of them to want the extra cash.
I don't think how they acquired the car (lot, swap, order) had too much impact on my purchase price. I paid 3% over invoice of $26,664, and I am not so sure that I would have done better if I had taken a car off their lot. Their actual invoice was a little higher than the invoice price of $26,664 that you see on Edmunds and Carpoint. They had some fees in their like port fees, and some other fees. Regardless, my final purchase price was almost exactly 3% over the $26,664 number.
