I just changed the oil in my wife's '06 2.5 Jetta and mechanic told me I had about 1.5 quarts in it. No oil Light and it ran fine. Could it run that low without a light or could he have misjudged how low it was?
yeah it could... unfortunately if there isnt an oil level sensor the amount needed to maintain oil pressure isnt all that much. but when you say you "just" changed the oil how many miles had elapsed between the oil service and your mechanic noticing then level was low
I have generally went 6K between oil changes but this time may have been 9-10K. He said it was low when changing after that amount of time. There hasn't been any loss of oil that I knew of before. No oil leaks. I'll keep an eye on it now, I am hoping there wouldn't be any issues with chain stretching due to this. I got so used to it not using oil that i let it go.
