I read that you need to order a new front swaybay when lowering a MK4, is this true? Is it necesary?

i heard it was only if it was a cup kit everything else is fine
Re: Lowering Question (phrozenracer)

You need a new front swaybar if you lower your MKIV more than 1.4 inches, this is for chassis clearance. H&R has one designed for the added clearance as well as nuespeed. (both around $200)

Re: Lowering Question (nwmotion)

I lowered my MKIV 1.5 inches and didn't need a new bar.

Re: Lowering Question (UKGTI)

From all the info I've seen and heard, you should change the front sway for 1.5 and lower drops. Maybe that's because they were reffering to 99.5 and up vehicle, which is a slight difference?
Re: Lowering Question (nwmotion)

I had plenty of clearance with mine. I had to detach it to install the front struts but just torqued it back together and was good to go.

Re: Lowering Question (phrozenracer)

ACTUALLY..... you can lower you car almost 2" in the front without a visible problem....but under heavy articulation the front drive shafts will bind on the sway bar.
you can....
1. Buy an aftermarket sway bar that has the clearance......or
2. Buy end links to extend the tips of the swaybar up and away from the drive shafts.
With a 1.5" drop you shouldn't need a new swaybar.
