I've heard from some people that if you buy coilovers without buying new shocks, that your stock shocks will be fried in less than 6 months. Just curious as to what you guys think about that. I'm not about to spend 1 grand just to lower my car a couple of inches with a true coilover set when i can spend like 100 bucks on lowering springs.

Re: Lowering Springs/Coilovers on stock shocks (Quest)

Well, if you get stock spring rate coils, you can use your stock shocks. I'm sure you'll bottom out all over with the lower height and same rate though. Not so great with the reduced travel as well.
Best bet is to get sport shocks with the coil over kit.

Re: Lowering Springs/Coilovers on stock shocks (Quest)

I owned a '94 Jetta GLX w/H&R's over stock shocks/struts. The car kind of bounced over repetitive bumps, but still handled awesome in the turns. Put 40K on w/o any probs. Any H&R stuff I've driven (BMW/Audi/VW) has been awesome; Hor seems to be junk. My opinion.
