Re: Lowering springs on Bilstein HD's what's the worst that can happen? (davedave)

Shocks aren't going to lower your car, the springs will though. It's not a good idea to put HD's on sport springs, it's going to be bouncy as hell.
I run H&R sports w/Bilstein sports and it's NOT low enough for my liking, the ride is excellent but it needs to be about .5 lower at least.
If I had to do it over again I would have either gone with the cup kit, which I don't think was out yet when I bought my set up. It's too late now.

If you don't have sport springs yet, save up and get the cup kit. The only thing better would be coilovers but those are $$$$.

Actually the Bilstein HD's won't be bouncy, but they will be harsh as Hell when you hit something more than a little ripple. The shocks may bottom out more than you would care for.

Are you sure it won't be bouncy? Because the sport shocks are going to be stiffer, and can be a bit on the harsh side at times. If you say the "shocks may bottom out more", wouldn't that make the dampening softer, hence bouncy bouncy. It's not going to be nearly as bad as stock shocks but it will definitely bounce more than with the sports. Anyway, if you go to the Bilstein website they have warnings about NOT putting sport springs on HD's.

They have that warning there because their HD shock rods are longer than the sport setup. The sport setup is valved the same (last I checked) but there is magic in the distance it can compress when compared to the HD's.
Just in case youd don't believe me, I have had both setups, and now I have a revalved Bilstein sport setup with my coilovers taking a break in storage.

bilstein HDs with 60mm neuspeed springs. bouncey as hell? you must mean when I hit pothole fast and it feels like I got rear ended by a truck. There is no bouncey feeling to the ride at all. It sucks to the road and I've had zero problems with the set up. I don't know much about the Bilstein sports but I've been happy with the ride height and the cornering ability of the car. I also have a sway bar and low pro wider tires which help but it's late here and I'm rambling.
