Lately when I have been driving, I get a hard clunk in the rear of my gti when I run over the expansion cracks in the highway, or speed bumps in a parking really make the suspension sound off. I believe it's coming from one or both struts, they feel fine when you do the strut test and there is no oil leaking out. I am still running a stock suspension from 96 and it seems to be in great shape with only 70k miles on it. The strut bolts seem very tight, and I feel no play in any bushings, you folks have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

Clunks in the rear aren't too common, as there honestly isn't much back there.
Double check the bottoms and tops of the struts for tightness.
Then check for play in your wheel bearings.
My guess however is that you're going to need new struts in the rear.
Bilstein TC and Tokico HP are good OE replacements. For something a bit stiffer Bilstein HD or Koni Sports are in order.
If you've got lowering springs the look to Bilstein Sports or Koni sports.
