Has anyone ever replaced the main engine wiring harness? I disconnected my yesterday and as I pulled it apart three of the pins pulled out with it. Water had been gathering in there from the aux electric coolant pump and causing the car to run poor. Today I butt spliced the three bad wires so they now by pass the harness. After reattaching everything I started the car and the check engine light came on. Pulled the harness apart again and another pin came out. Many of them are very week, flexible, and corroded from sitting in the water. Any ideas on how to fix this? I'm reluctant to cut the whole harness because some of the wires are still good; I've checked their connection with a voltmeter. Should I continue to try to isolate the bad ones only and splice them? Is there an easy way to find what wire on the back goes to what pin? I can't make much sense of the pattern of numbers VW used. Please help I'm almost pissed enough to cut my losses and part it out.
