Re: Maserati BiTurbo Cash for Clunker? (RogueOne)

My dad had one in the 80's, the car was terrible. It did nothing well and was in the shop all - and I mean all - the time. Dad never bought an Italian car again.

They're junk and impossible to sell...why wouldn't you trade it in?

I assume you are not that familiar with Biturbos, are you?
I would be worried about how I was going to get the heap to the dealership.

Moving under its own power might be a bit much to ask of it.

I know those cars are crap, and that they weren't all that competitive when they were brand new.
Somehow I still want one.

When they do run which isnt much they are pretty quick. The fuel injected models are still fast cars even today and arent all that bad. The carb models are the really terrable ones but they would still pull when it hits boost. I have a biturbo and an e30 and the biturbo is quicker by a little bit.

Not sure if you watch Top Gear or not but on the Seventies Supercars they had Merak, I think Clarkson drove it. The Merak IIRC had the same or similar 2.0 six in it, it had supposedly been rebuilt, and it spectacularly imploded (think main seat was broken and blown onto the roadbed, bits of the engine were strewn everywhere).
Now they abused these cars, sure, but the spectacular failure of that engine would make me think to eternity about the Bee-Turbo.

That's what I was thinking.

The fact that the trade has to be running would probably disqualify most of the BiTurbos that haven't already been crushed.

What is amazing is that they "claim" the car has covered 18,840 miles. I'm pretty sure that is impossible unless time on a flat bed counts.

That's how it's pronounced.

I find the clunkering of a Maserati BiTurbo to be tragic...
In that it wasn't sent to the crusher 10 years ago.
