Re: Matching cams with shrick intake (JoeHonee)

uh, i would say might work better with 268's if vgi is programmed at 4300rpm, the 268's should "kick in" around there, but it matters who you ask if the vgi is needed. I would go 268's. vgi will give the low end a lil kick, but the 268's really kick your arse on top end.

I have a VGi with 268's and after the big burst of torque between 3-4000, the cams come on all the way up. I consider the VGi to be a great all round upgrade for normal driving, <4000rpm; but the 268's with their 11.5mm lift,
come on in the higher rpm range so it's a win-win with both.
I also have a p&p'd big valve head which also helps up top.

Are all 3 Schrick parts? If so, man that's like almost 4 grand isn't it? http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Matching cams with shrick intake (vagvr6)

I prefered the VGI & 256s simply because the 256 enhanced the VGI bump and then some. Most of my driving is between 2,500 and 6,200 rpm where this combo really shines. The 268 outperform the 256 above 6,200 through 7,100 but I just didn't spend enough time in that rpm range.. and the 256 outperform the 268s from 2,500 to 6,200 rpm. On my daily highway commute I'm at around 3,500 rpm at 75mph in 5th gear. Right in the VGI/256 sweet spot...when I want to pass, drop the throttle and you really moving even in 5th gear. No need to downshift at speed. On the dyno the VGI with 256s still out perform stock setup or just 256 alone above 6,200 rpm. So it's not like your losing anything up top either. Just not getting as much above 6,200 with the 268s, but then you have to trade off low & mid rpm power and torque with the 268 when compared to the 256s. Both work, just depends what your looking for.. max HP #'s or more HP where you use it in daily driving.

Re: Matching cams with shrick intake (Ed Casey)

Yea good description. Basically if you want top end, so you really pull one someone at the top of your gears, 268's are better. but for daily driving 256's are good, just wont get the 1200rpm hard pull extra that you get from 268's. recently a friend in a corrado with 256's lost to a gti vr6 with 268/vgi. a lot of variables, but I think its going to be pretty even once the Corrado gets his mods done. whatever you choose you will be happy man. I am going with a custom manifold and 268's. I dont really need the low rpm, it'll just make me stay slow driving around down, get me better MPG, haha. You can get a VGI for like $1200 or so on the Tex, and I'd rather have a peloquin then a vgi. Peace

Re: What about these? (Bora20)

No such thing as "better", it's just different. The power band will be moved, in the case of a 256, midrange, 268-hi range, 260/264-mid to hi range. Depends on how you drive, and what you want to pay.

Re: What about these? (vdubjb)

I guess I should have explained it better.
I assume then that the:
256 - better for low/mid range power
260/264 - better for mid/ high power
268 - better for high range power
So I think that for day to day driving with spirited freeway excursions, the 260/264 cams with a VGI would be the ultimate combo. It may not be the best at the top end and scream like 268 cams, but will maintain a good idle and give great driving characteristics.
Am I wrong?

From what I know, if you are going All-Motor, then go with 268's, with the schrick and 268, it's free top end HP cause Schrick VGi make up for the lost torque.
And go with DSR256's if you dont like to drive around all day at 7000rpm, and give you self a real kick in mid range. I also just got these cams and schrick VGi. I think the setup i have going gives me the most flexability, i can stay with these mods and be happy or i can go supercharger.
one thing tho, I've heard of FI schrick cams, is that the 260/264?? no, right?? They are two different sets of cams right?? If so, what's the difference??
