Matrix/Vibe, Whats the difference?

1221 Views 13 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  A4Jetta
Hey'all, how you all doing?
As what the topic said, beside the visual differences between the 2 cars, (grill, bumpers, logos, etc...) are there any other kind of differences? Are they built in the same plant? Would there be differences in reliability? This is because the price difference between the 2 is about 2000$.....
Thanx in advance!

There is not much difference. They both feel cheeply made inside. Don't like them. If you are used to VW's you will be disapointed with these.

Matrix is made in Canada (Ughhh
).

Vibe is built in Fremont, CA.
btw: Toyota's are cheaply made, but do not equate this with being poorly made. They do not drive, llok, or feel like German cars, but they are very well put together.

Toyota beancounters are squeezing every $$$$ on every plastic moldings and hingles, surprisingly, they put together pretty well.

Man, replies are fast!
Anyways, in vortex, nothing stacks up to quality of a VW.
and thats not what i'm worrying about. I would want to know the differences between the 2 cars.
Today i went to visit the Toyota dealer, and saw the martix. It looks alrite, and beside the feelings of the doors and the HU, overall the car aint bad in terms of interior.
Also, after a few years, would there be more problems in the vibe/ vice versa? Because of the different place that they are built? Would the martrix be a usual toyota that lasts forever or would it get affected by GM/pontiac?
Sorry, but i don't know how to express my question in a better way, please forgive my english
Thanks again!!

Well, the plant the Vibe is built in is none other than the NUMMI plant, which
has been building the US's corollas/prisms, as well as many of our toyota trucks for quite some time now. There shouldn't be any quality problems there, the NUMMI guys are first rate..
Now that plant in -canada-? I dunno. I'd be wary of that.

AFAIK, the Matrix is available with an automatic tranny with the 180hp motor. This drivetrain configuration is not available with the Vibe.
It's too bad the both Vibe and Matrix AWD versions are only availabe with the weakest engine and automatic. Hmm, perhaps with a turbo and a stick, the better looking Vibe AWD would be a good alternative to the Scoobie WRX.
Re: Matrix/Vibe, Whats the difference? (Dinosaurius)

They also lose 7hp from having AWD. How does one service a Vibe at a Pontiac dealer if it is basicly a Toyota(Same goes from Prizm)?
Re: Matrix/Vibe, Whats the difference? (00 Golf 1.8T)

Matrix should be very reliable considered its based on Corolla platform. Since Vibe is basically a Matrix which is a Corolla with higher body and Celica engine, it should be reliable.

I think the Pontiac looks far better, but then, I almost always preferred the looks of the Nova/Prizm over the Corolla too.
Re: Matrix/Vibe, Whats the difference? (Jettavr666)

Pontiac looks better than Toyota, IMO. But I would choose a Matrix over a Vibe because of its engine choices and its a Toy-oda.
