what is the max wattage you can run in the stock fogs? i hear people mention risk of cracking due to excess heat w/ 100W bulbs, but since both are stone chipped, thats' not an issue for me..... but i don't want to start a fire or anything

any info would be appreciated! thanks http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

(guess i should specifically ask : " is it safe to run 100W bulbs?"
thanks again

I would have to stay stick with 55w.....
Don't risk melting the fogs, they are too expensive to do that...

Definitely stick with 55w bulbs. The housings and wiring can take the extra power req'd by 100w's, but it's gonna be really annoying having to change your bulbs every 2 or 3 weeks.
100w bulbs run much hotter and burn out very quickly in these foglights. I tried running them and like I said above, they blew in 2 weeks. Plus, the light output is virtually indistinguishable from regular 55w's.
Stick with 55w bulbs. You'll be much happier in the long run. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

the purpose of fog lights aren't for style... theyre for fog. A high powered fog light can be just as bad as having highbeams on in the fog...
stick with 55w and if you must upgrade your fogs, get some all weather bulbshttp://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Ya wanna know something really stupid.. the stock fog lights in my jetta are illegal in BC unless there hooked up to my high beams..
i got pulled over by the RCMP for having my fog lights on and hooked up to my low beams... talk about a stupid canadian law!

i'm well aware that the lights aren;t for style... i take a lot of @#$#% for having driving lamps on my jetta, but i like to see....
found a pair of 100W H3's lying aroung the garage.... curious as to whether or not they'd work.... i'd rather throw yellows in, but since i have one ight out, and these are already here.....

I run the PIAA 55w Xtra...thye claim it has the output of an 85w, but uses the same power and produces the same heat as a 55w...noi problems after 2 years, and I use them every nite. I would not go to any high power ones though as you will melt them and their wires...
