Hello, I have ecode jetta lights. Im running 50/60 watt bulbs. Is this the maximum? I would like them to be a bit brighter if possible. Can anyone name any good brands like phillips? or a website would be helpful

Re: Maximum wattage for e-code lights??? (Vdubgrub)

I run 80/100 H4s in my Vento lights. If you really want to see a difference, upgrade your wiring as well as your bulbs. I don't know what the maximum amperage/wattage is for our cars, but I do know the wiring will only go so far. Upgrading it will allow you to get more power to the bulbs.
Any electrical engineers out there...I have no idea what I'm talking about in that realm...I'm only relaying what I've been told.

You can run the 80/100 safely...and if you aim them like Marcs then I will have to break your drivers side one when I break his so it stops shining in my eyes....

Your fuse should blow before you have any problems with the wires melting from excess current. I am running 80/100W halogens with no problems.

quote:

80/100 wow thats alot isnt it? Im using pottermans wiring harness but I dont know how much it can handle. How bright is 80/100?

It's definitely brighter than the stock H4 (45/50?), but not the huge difference the numbers would lead you to believe.

How long have you guys been running the 80/100s? I asked a Hella rep about it, and he said wattage that high could destroy the reflector from excess heat. I know he's speaking from a warranty point of view, but I don't want to destroy my $300 lights either.

I ran 80 watts in my stock GTI lights for about 9 months, and then 80 watts in my Heall dual rounds for about 6 months without a problem....now my Stage 2 HID's are in and HID's are only 35 watts so there is no problem...
