MAZDA6 Sales Shine Through
IRVINE, Calif., July 1 -- Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today reported sales for the highly acclaimed MAZDA6 sports sedan reached an all-time high 7,645 units in June -- a 55 percent increase from May 2003. The Mazda Tribute also posted its best June ever with 5,099 units -- a 10 percent increase from the same period last year.
The company sold a total of 25,392 vehicles in June -- a 10.5 percent decrease from June 2002. Overall, Mazda's year-to-date sales total 118,906 units -- down 7.7 percent from 2002.
"Between June Gloom in the west, thunderstorms in the east and a poor economy throughout the U.S., the summer car-buying season kicked off slowly this year," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO of MNAO. "But it's clear the MAZDA6 is attracting attention, and with the right vehicles in stock, dealers are quickly turning inventory into sales."
Mazda North American Operations is responsible for the sales and marketing, customer parts and services support of Mazda vehicles in the United States. Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., MNAO has more than 700 dealerships nationwide.

The sales increase was no doubt helped by 0% financing and $199/mo. lease deals.

Great news. So apparently the RX-8 hasn't reached dealerships yet, although I've heard of a few on-the-road sightings. Hopefully Mazda sales will shine in the fall, when the new 3 goes on sale.

i hear we wont get the 3 until january at the earliest NAIAS launch i think and dealerships a couple weeks after

Protege doesn't seem to be popular in California. I have only seen 2-3 P5s for the whole week in Silicon Valley. Civic, on the other hand, is really popular. Almost 20-3 ration between Protege and Civic.

It's about time people start getting into this great car! I think the word is spreading about how fun the 6 is to drive, and yet how practical it is at the same time. It's far more exciting than any of the competition, and its sales numbers are finally starting to show that. The 6 will be a sales success in North America, just as it is in Europe and Japan.

I do see a fair number of Proteges, but not as many as Civics. However, many of the Proteges that I do see have small stickers with bar codes in one of the rear windows -- rental fleet vehicles?

Good to see it's doing better...the 6 is a really nice car, it's a real shame that it got off to such a slow start.
