Ok, so we've come to the conclusion that the GTI is better than a a Type R, an M3, and a Geo Metro......but how'bout a McLaren?

I know this post will probably get closed down, but I'll post it just for kicks anyway. I'm actually bent on seeing how many people say that the GTI is the better car.

Some of the people in here amuse me. I like to be amused around the Christmas season. It makes it a joyful time.

in terms of fuel consumption
our cars beats McLaren F1.
For instance, if we want to know how which car takes the LEAST time from LA to NY..
I think our car could win

Okay, no one has mentioned the $500Kplus price tag for a McLaren

vs. a $19-23K GTI, now you have $470K for mods!

More like $1,000,000! I dunno about now. You may be able to get a sweet deal on them for about $800,000 now.
In terms of cars, I think the "better" car would actually be the VW....more reliable, more comfort, etc.....but the "better" car is the McLaren.

What would get you from NY to CA faster? Probably the VW....because if you stop at a rest-stop in the McLaren, it's likely when you come out your car won't be there.

Also, you're likely to find the unreliable McLaren on the side of the road.

Performance...without a doubt, the McLaren. Looks...McLaren. Chick factor...McLaren. Insurance factor...McLaren. Discomfort factor...McLaren.
See, many advantages to the McLaren, but we have blue lights, good gas mileage, a 4 year warranty, comfort, a cd player, cassette player, airbags, and Valet mode.

Who ever said the mclaren was unreliable? Just asking, I never really heard it was that quirky of a car, nothing but good things i heard...

it's been widely said that you need $2 million to get a McLaren F1... half is the purchase price and the other half is the upkeep.

- MAF failures
- O2 sensor failures
- window regulator failures
- glove blox lid failures
- mysterious rattles
Just wondering....

I would like to revise this question to say
McLaren F1 V. Dahlback "GTI". Didn't HD supposedly spend roughly $500000 modding that car...wait, modding isn't the right word since it just has golf-styled body panels...building that car? In either case, I'd sooner choose the GTI. And if it was the original poll, I'd still choose the GTI. i hvae no use for an F1

I'd take the Mac, and then paint it Ferrari red to spite Ron Dennis. The BMW lump in the Mac F1 must be chapping Ronnie's arse right about now, seeing as Merc is getting outclassed by BMW in F1.

Stock for stock the McLaren has a slight edge. But if this is a 1.8T GTI we're talking about, all it needs is a chip to attain light speed. You can caress your dash as you're looking at the McLaren in your rear view mirror.

The dash in a McLaren is crap! They dont make em like they used to, they use cheap Ford Parts, Just look at that dash you couldnt live with that crap all day, every day. My VW has superior enterior, and I have superior enterior complex. Its a pretty common thing on the Voretex but its also a well known fact.
The superior plastcis in VAG cars make the VW the winner hands down! Nobody does platic like VAG nobody!

I't take a GTI anyday over that overpriced, overrated, fugly POS any day and use the rest of the money to help my friends and/or family.
Goddamn I hate that car and everything it stands for.
