In addition to the MDI retro kit, you will also need one (or up to four) of the adapter cables. VW offers a USB, mini-USB, Auxillarry 3.5mm and ipod cable.

With the new generation of radios, this will allow easier use of the hard drives through the various adapter cables.

Bud, any chance to post few scans of installation manual? I would like to know where it is located and how it looks. I was about to change my armrest, but this might be a better option.
