So, I brought back the Mighty Metro:

And got back my Jetta:

And here is the story with why I was in for service:
I had two warranty questions, and a 15k service:
1. Excessive (evenly) tire wear on the front tires - The result was they don't feel the front tires have been worn enough to be replaced, so no warranty can be issued. They told me that perhaps the place I went to originally that told me I needed new front tires was either trying to sell me tires, or they have very high standards. So, that's fine. When these tires are shot, I'll put the rear ones on the front, and get new ones for the back.
2. Discoloration of my front seats. I have the black velour, and you can see where I have been sitting, b/c the black is wearing off, same with the passengar seat. They told me that this is normal!!
He said, "Well, the color on your clothing wears off eventually, so does this." I told him that in every car I have been in, I have never seen anything like this, except for my mom's '99 Beetle. Hmmm, can you put two and two together there?? So, long story short, they will honor the warranty ONE time to replace the seat covers (the front two), but that is it. Obviously they know about this problem, b/c they are calling it "normal". Hahaha - stupid people.
3. 15k service - Nothing special there. I bought my own Mobil One 5w30 Full Synthetic oil for them to use. I feel a lot better going 5k miles in between services with synthetic oil, instead of straight weight. (Also, I like to DRIVE my car too
)

If you want your tires to wear evenly, rotate them regularly. This is especially important in FWD cars where the fronts not only steer but are also the drive/traction wheels. If you want to upgrade your tires upon replacement, rotate them and replace all four when two are so worn you can't drive on them. Otherwise, if you want to replace worn tires with OEM tires, put new ones on the front where they'll do the most good and let your rears ride along until they're worn out. Then, put new ones on the front and move the fronts to the rear. You always want your new tires on the front in a FWD car. Also, don't mix tires/tread patterns between front and rear (at least not for too many miles). This will skew your car's ability to grip the road.

There was a "silent recall" on the Goodyear Eagle LS tires that came standard on may VW's. Search the boards and you will find that there is a program to get VW to replace the tires b/c of excessive wear. You must have <25K mi on the tires to qualify.

I just replaced my tires. I had just under 25K miles with very little tread left. What are they replacing them with? I wouldn't want Goodyears again.

BERGENVR6: Thanks! It's 35% all around, but it was overcast that day, so that's why it looks darker than 35%. I got it done at Frisbee Enterprises in Newton, Rt 94, near Rt. 206. Talk to Tom, and tell him I sent you.

My 2000 Jetta has the same problem with the black velour. They'd replace it under warranty??

Philly: Thanks!
Yes, they are going to replace the covering ONE time, they said. But b/c it's "normal"
they won't do it again. What a crock.
