figured I'd put all this in one thread that wasnt about the actual trip up to pick the motor up. That way I can update it when stuff gets done etc etc.

And I guess now's a good time to learn how to read a wiring diagram to put this **** back together

On the drive back from dropping the motor my girfriend calls. This is a brief synopsis of the conversation
Kristin [my girfriend]: Did you get everything you need?
Me: Yeah, Just need to clean up and reconnect the wires tomorrow
Kristin: Whats that involve?
Me: Just sitting and sorting. Then re connecting and wrapping everything
Kristin: Can I come over to sit and sort?
Me: *puddle on the ground*

she's not only awesome, she's quite easy on the eyes too

painted some stuff today, need to sand and do a couple more coats till I'm happy with it

2.0l 9A bottom end

Chipped by NGP to match the cams
[Head was apparently on one of their project cars]

Newly rebuilt with all new seals/bearings/rings
ran a 14.2 in a MKII jetta, dyno'd at ~160

fun, I am in the same boat. cleaning up my 16v for install into the beige bunny, replacing plugs, wires, tbelt/tens, dizzy, cap, rotor, gaskets, serp belt setup, mounts, wheel bearings, painting things, and on and on

yeah, I had a stock passat 16v lined up locally, but the guy sold it a few days before i was to pick it up. I had planned to just build a really healthy motor, no performance things, just refresh stuff like gaskets, seals, rings, bearings etc etc. Got lucky and ended up saving myself a lot of money with this one, because it was freshly rebuilt & had performance modifications done that saved me a lot.

good find. I will get mine going mostly stock and make sure it runs perfectly, then get to wringing more power out of it. I hate tuning a motor that has existing issues

Yeah, this one ran really strong [ran it, revved it up, let it idle]. It was still in the car when we went to pick it up, then we helped the guy drop it. All the work was done by him [a vw tech] or NGP racing. Apparently the head was, at one time, on one of their project cars

very nice. Mine was relatively stock from a rocco I bought, so I got to drive it before pulling it. should workout okay (till I want more hp)

haha yeah, thats always where problems start. after I get it all together and finally going, I'm going to do the serp stuff and save money so I can get a lot done at one time and have the least amount of downtime

doing my serp now since I don't like pulling pulleys while it's in the car. those allen bolts strip too easy. got one stripped one (from PO I assume) holding the stock alt bracket on

Well someone local said they have an uncut OBDI harness that I could have. That'll make things quite a bit easier for me on the wiring front. Hope to have the 8v dropped and 16v meshed up with the tranny and in the bay this weekend

Some stuff from today. Got the told motor, head off, carb/manifold off. Everythings disconnected. Cleaning the bay tomorrow, [after getting a Valve Cover gasket and some PP stretch bolts tomorrow] then putting mashing the trans up with the new motor, throwing everything in. Wiring next week [fingers crossed]
