I'm on a long-term car rental while I'm studying here, and I have a Magna Executive. My rental is what I call the "Best of Australia" plan, because I can switch to different cars every 2 weeks or so if I please. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif I hope to get ahold of a Commodore, Falcon, MX-5, Land Cruiser Prado and 200SX during my rental period.

As far as the Magna goes, it's a fine vehicle, but I can see why the Camry/Falcon/Commodore triplets are preferred over it. Overall, it just does everything well, but not exceptionally -- it doesn't stand out in any area. It's not as reliable or smooth as a Camry, not as sporty or powerful like a Commodore, and not as slickly styled or detailed like a Falcon. I'd imagine it'd be a popular car among insurance salesmen.

It is though, comfortable, well-appointed and has a ncie drivetrain. But the Falcon has become the benchmark in that segment in all areas except styling (in the public's eyes of course

The Falcon, Focus, and Mondeo all incorporate the New Edge theme with a fresh, nicely sculpted design. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
I like the Magna's design as well. It is sharp and with the frameless windows, has a nice rakish profile. The 3.5L is a gem, pleasantly torquey and smooth, but I'm not a fan of the auto tranny, which seems kinda indecisive and harsh. The interior is also nicely designed and ergonomically comfortable. I think some suspension tuning and a better programmed transmission would make it a much more desirable car. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Though in 2WD (albeit FWD) form it undercuts its competitors as most JDM Mitsubishis generally do, in 4WD form (which is likely better for the power of the GDI engines, and Mitsubishi 4WD systems are great) it's priced right against them, i.e. 3.0-litre sedans like the Cedric and Crown. No doubt it has many merits, but also doesn't exactly stand out other than offering good comfort, drivetrain and value.

Mitsubishi, however, like Mazda always offered full-size top-line offerings in the past which were competitive and different. The original ('64-'86) Debonair was one of the most prestigious sedans in Japan.
