For the first time, in a mk2 since my passat, i had to drive in the snow/sleet today/this weekend and it inspired me. I want heated windwheild washer nozzels...no, it is not enough for me to have de-icer or low freezing point wahser fluid.
I assume that these were standard equiptment somewhere in the world...canadia (yes, i know that is mispelled

), europe? Anyone know?
My car is equiped with heated mirrors, can i mod the nozzels from a b3/4 passat, golf/jetta? Is there a connector in my engine bay for them already? (I would look at the wireing diagrams in my bentley, but it is not with me right now). I used to have a b4 passat and it had them, they were very similiar to the nozzels on my jetta gli now, so i thought that it might be an easy mod...even if i had to do my own wireing...just tap into the heated mirrors wiring. Anyone done this?

I think that i'll continue in my quest for the heated nozzels...it cannot be that hard of a mod and they worked pretty good in my passat. I remember driving from NM to CO on time this winter over Raton Pass my nozzels had frozen over and would not spray at all (it was REALLY cold...esp with wind chill going 80mpg), i flipped on the defroster/heated mirrors/heated nozzels, 10 mins, good as new! That is why i want them now!!!

A bucket of hot water is just going to defrost my windsheild, as soon as i get on the freeway and get sprayed with muddy mist, then i will need the nozzels again to clean the window not to mention that the water will freeze over again. I will need to clean off the muddy mist and the nozzels might or might not work! That is my logic now.

if you can use some sort of chemical in your resivour to keep it from freezing, i know they make an in-line heater for windshield washers. I think JC Whitney may sell them. And the nozzels would be a retrofit but probably not too hard. you'd just have to apply power to them via a switch and relay... but i'd say the in-line heater would be best.

They were definitely an option in some parts of the world, because I have them on mine! They don't work tho, corroded to death. Shouldn't be too pricy from the stealership, and they'd be easy to wire - I think they're wired in with the heated rear window switch. HTH etc.

Hey hey hey....Being in Minnesota-- You may be onto something here... What Passat did you have that they were on? Like parz said, they should be fairly simple to connect to the rear window de-frogger...
And/or--
Is there anything you could wrap around either the tank or the hoses that would use very little power to warm them? It wouldn't have to get much more than 32d, just to keep the stuff from freezing.... Like one of those massage things filled with gel that warms up in the microwave...Heat it up, take it out and wrap it around your washer tank when you get home, it should stay warm enough overnight to keep it from freezing... Or those 'Insta-Heat' glove insert things...Hmmmmmm
You guys that have block heaters-- Does that stay warm enough to keep the whole engine bay warm? Or just the oil and such....
Sorry so long, brainstorming, and you never know when you someone will grab an idea and run with it

Just to clarify these heated washers are fitted from new on my A2 golf, not a Passat.... seems a bit weird that I have them on mine yet you don't get them over there - N.I. isn't exactly the coldest place in the world, even if it feels like it sometimes! Have you checked the junkyards? The wiring loom runs right along with the washer tubing so it isn't hard to spot. Good luck!

mine were from a b4 passat, and they looked remarkably similiar to the mk2 sprayers so i am hopeing that they are the same, they only had one wire going to each (i assume that they grounded to the hood which means that you should really make sure that your ground/safety strap to the hood is in good working order).
Good point about the block heater, that might kill two birds with one stone...too bad i park in an underground parking facility without any outlets!

I was just spotted this in the Bentley current flow diagrams the other day. They came off of Canadian Golf/Jetta models. (and I am not looking at the diagrams right this second but) I think that they were wired in with the sidemarker harness on those models. Maybe you could get someone from Canada to pull the nozzles and the wiring harness (from fusebox to the nozzles) for you. In the DC area I wouldn't waste my time, but if I were still living in NH then I would do this without a doubt.

I picked up a pair of used heated A3 nozzles, hoping to add them to my A2. The VW part # on them is: 191.955.986.A(you may need to add a color code if dealing w/a dealer) I hope this helps.

here is just one off the top of my head ...take the big line from your colant resivor and lengthen it with a new peice and wrap it around the washer tank like two coils then to where its susposed to go ...heated resivor there u go

That is a good idea! Rigged and ugly, but a good idea none the less. Watch as lucaq now does all of the mentioned mods, heated nozzels, JCW line heaters and the coolant line tank heating trick and breaks his windsheild as a result because the water is too darn hot! Either that or i will be using them sometime when i have my sunroof open and i will scald myself with hot washer fluid

What kind of windshield washer fluid do you guys have??? We in Bloody-cold-livin'-in-igloo-Canada get the fluid that good till -45C... that converts to aboot -50F... Plenty cold eh??
Seriously, I should consider an export business if that's unavailable in the US

Oh and on My Jetta I did the heated washer nozzle thing... grabbed them from a Passat in the junkyard. You'll have to file out the mounting holes a bit, 'cause they need to be bigger. And I wired it with my defrost switch because I did'nt have heated mirrors on mine (This was my diesel POS Jetta that barely ran let alone have any convenience features!!)
Now if you want the ultimate, you need to get the heated seat mod... that's the only thing keeping me from swapping mine for sportier seats with better support... Mine heat me butt in the winter, and keep me happy while it's cold out there!!

i know the W124 Mercedes has a heater coil in the resavoir (sp?) to heat the fluid.

I think that we have low temp stuff out here too, but i don't think it is that low! I am going to do the rain-x de-icer...it worked really well and left a nice new treatment of rain-x everytime that you used it. The rain-x even made it easier to get ice off of the windsheild. So I am going to change my fluid (my blue stuff now freezes) in addition to the heated nozzels

I KNEW IT!!! I had a feeling that the passat ones would work...i don't know if it will be easier to wire them to the mirrors or the regular defrost switch...i am still hopeing that since i have heated mirrors that there is a unused wire for it somewhere in my engine bay, that is how it was for my fogs and it worked out quite nicely...little wire just hangin' there asking to be used for the fogs...let's keep our fingers crossed (i am going to look in my bentley when i get home for 91 GLI german production and see).

That is next on my list of winter mods, i had the cold weather package on my passat and it was so nice! My friend has the heated seat pads so i am going to see if i can get them from him (i don't know if they will work on his new Recaro SRDs or not, but i think that they will work on my stock Recaros. G60Synco, why don't you take the pads out of your old seat and wire them into some recaros or something?? Then you get the best of both worlds. I know that there are some companies out there that sell the heating pads, do a search on the vortex for the links...i think that they were like $30-50/ pad kinda steep, but i bet you could find better prices or tear some out of a junk car.

I got worse troubles!!
my windsheild wipers are all loose and janky. sometimes they just refuse to move!!! not good when it's snowing out. Good thing my heater works and I got rainX
I doubt you would be able to do this without some serious mods. But I think it might be possible if you find a car with heated nozzles customize your hood to accept them, and mount them in the hood. Then wire them to a switch in your dash. Be sure to reseach how much voltage they need and make a lead with the correct voltage. This is an amateur guess so just build it yourself. I'll give you props if you can do it maybe get you to help me with a set for my GTI
