Has anyone done this or tried it?
I'm trying to figure out if it is worth the trouble. Will it physically fit? I forsee some sort of custom lines or fitting adapters, but apart from that, what else would be needed?

Re: MK3 A/C into a[n] MK1? (ams2hill)

what i want to do is swap a full mk3 drivetrain (from a donor car) into a mk1. in this case, a/c is not crucial, but it sure would be nice in the summer time.
i will look into the later cabby setup, tho, thanks.

I'm about to take all the A/C parts out of my 84 cabby. Everything works and is still holding a charge...I just dont need A/C here. IM me if you want it. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

i would like to keep the serp. belt setup, but if i need it i will keep you in mind.
i guess my biggest concerns are the lines and the controls...

Using an ABA setup with the serpentine...there is no way this will fit in a mk1 with the compressor still attached. Reason being it pushes the compressor right into the lower rad support.
MK3's use the same Sanden 508 style compressor as all diesel, cabby and rocco mk1's as someone previously mentioned.
I run a 20vT in my daily with a Chinese sanden 508 and a custom made bracket with a March serpentine conversion pulley.
Had ice cold A/C coming home from school yesterday. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Here's a quick pic of my setup. Again:
B5 Alternator, tensioner and upper bracket
B5 crank pulley
modded b5 waterpump pulley (mk3 VR would have been bolt on)
custom lower brackets
Sanden 508 comp
March serpentine pulley conversion.
Works perfect http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

this confirms what i thought...that it won't fit in stock form on an aba swap

if you don't mind i'm stealing your little bit of info for the aba swap thread http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: (Unphucwitable)

I wonder if you could fab up a bracket and mount it to the rear of the engine like maybe start with Fox power steering pump brackets and keep a serp setup?

no can do. There is an axle in the way.
