I asked in the detailing forum, but it's dead over there...

Anyone give me some pointers about cleaning my :coughunderbreath: 1.8 CL engine?
Thanks!

Simple green is a great cleaner, but as far as really detailing it I use a steamer with distilled water http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif works awesome.

If you steam...just keep the hood open for a while to let the moisture out, otherwise you can blow your coilpack...it happend to me...

Re: Mk3 Engine Detailing... (t.o.golf3)

in a nutshell:
warm car up, hose out lighting, spray some castrol superclean (or simplegreen or whatever you like/have) scrub and tough spots like the strut towers and top edges of the fenders with a little brush (i use one meant for the kitchen sink)
i personally finish it off with some tire shine foam, but beware that this stuff can get sticky later and attract dust and dirt, but i try to stay on top of it and hose out the bay every couple times i wash the car, keeps the guck to a minimum.
