Re: mk3 vs. a3 (Juicejetta3)

the two names original in europe where audi has the A3 (and S3). so they use mk3 when referring to the third generation jettas/golfs (what we commonly call A3) so they dont confuse the two.

The B3 has little to do with the A3 I believe.

The only thing it has to do with the A3 is that they are both Mk3's. If they had something more to do with each other, they would both be A3's or B3's.

Well they're both the third generation of their respective platforms. That's about it. A B3 is not the same as an A3. I guess technically you could call it a Mk3, but the "Mk" seems to be universally applied to the A platform. At least on this board anyway.

Re: mk3 vs. a3 (Juicejetta3)

I don't want to sound repetitive here, but A3 is the chassis code (like the Passat and Audi A4 being the B5 chassis, older passats being B3, B4) and the mk3 is the bodystyle generation (like mk4 Cabrio which is fourth gen bodystyle but on the A3 chassis still).

Re: mk3 vs. a3 (LostBoyScout)

From my understanding, for Golf/Jetta III, A3 is the platform code North America calls it. Mk3 is a what they call it everywhere else. So yes they mean the same thing.
