Thought for sure it was going to ping like a mofo...stoked. It's freakin' hot too....
Before I rebuilt the motor, it would ping under load when it was hot outside and about 220-230 oil temp. That was with my 16-row setrab..now I have a 19 row and oil temps have not been above 208/195 water. Peeeeeeerfect imho.
I'm thinking the carbon buildup may have had something to do with the previous pinging issue. Also, my EGR valve is not seeing vacuum under load. Need to replace the solenoid valve.

Re: Mk4 Head Gasket, 256's, 91 Octane, and GIAC chip...NO PING! (SLC4EVER)

Yes, this is correct. Everyone that I know that has a "well kept/built" VR6 is running this gasket with no problems at all.
I would bet big money that anyone who has issues with running a MK4 gasket already had "other" issues before the head gasket install.

Wow, congrats sir. I'm glad you could make this work. I wanna see some numbers on this thing when you've broken it in a bit.

I have the exact same setup. No pinging on agressive street driving.
I do get pinging at the track w/ 91 so I mix in some race gas and it goes away. (100+ outside Temp, 290+ Oil Temp w/ oil cooler)

Thought for sure the 91 octane would have a major impact.
