I know this has been posted before, but with the search situation, I can't find any info.
What is involved with fitting a Mk4 shift knob and boot into a Mk3? I am looking at the Sport Edition knob and it has the chrome ring around it, can this be kept or do I keep my stock boot? Any help or how-to links would be appreciated.

I don't know about the chrome ring but the MK4 knob and boot fits perfectly in a MK3

I just logged in to ask a question... this thread seems like the perfect place to put it.
I just bought a 94 Jetta... I'm looking for a new shift boot and knob. It's got the crappy plastic boot that's ripped and I wanted a new knob anyway. Where is a good place to look online for them?

I found the one I am looking at getting at http://www.pgperformance.com http://www.rpi-equipped.com and http://www.parts4vw.com have some too. Most tuners have them.

From what I could tell, the plastic lower trim wont fit the Mk3....I got someone i the Mk4 forum to measure the opening in their car, and then I measured mine....the knob and boot will fit OK though....

It will all fit! This sort of thing is what dremels excel at!

They also sell a version without the chrome ring (for the same price, oddly enough)... will that fit without any modification?

This should help. "How To": Install a MKIV shifter & boot on a MKIII
Note that in the pictures I have removed the trim panel around the shifter. This is not needed however since I did it that way and those are the pictures I have....

Pay close attention to the note at the bottom to avoid it sticking up real high.
