I want to get heavier steering in my Golf, but the dealership won't do it, as VW won't allow code tweaking. The local dealership recently had a campaign where they retrofitted the drive profile button and the software, but it turned out it's only for DSG cars. So I'm stuck with steering that I find too light.

The local car forums here list guys who have the needed HW and SW to tweak the coding but naturally there's no rating on these guys.

My question is: How difficult is it to tweak the power steering settings on these cars? I understood it's behind some lock code that you need to know before you can access the setting. Can you mess up something if you don't know what you're doing? I wouldn't want to take my car to someone who messes up my car and doesn't offer any kind of warranty for the job.

Thanks. What are the chances of messing something up when trying to tweak the settings? I found a guy who has the gear needed, but no experience in this specific tweak. I sent him the Ross-Tech link and he said it looks promising.

It's easy to tweak with an OBDEleven, but it resets the next time you start the car up. I'm interested in whether doing it using these other methods makes it stick.

So wait, i dont have a OBD Eleven but does this mean all coding done by that device gets reset the next start up? I was thinking of getting one but not if its needs to be redone every restart.

I just traded in my 2015 GTI SE DSG for a 2018 GTI SE DSG a week ago and was about to do some of the mods like Mirror Dip and Window closing with Key Fob and some of the mods i had done on my 2015 didn't work or couldnt find modules etc because apparently the MK7.5 has just enough new stuff that it some of it doesnt work.

I did a ton of searching but alomost everything I found was for just the Mk7 not 7.5. I'm a novice at most of this so i'm not about to go playing around and break something but was able to find some help on the MKVII Golf R page. so here's what i found:https://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?8927457-MK7-5-Golf-R-VCDS-Tweaks

I haven't tried any of these yet and some are Golf R specific but if any of you have some that you've worked out i figure this would be a good place to put them all and save others a lot of searching. there are also a couple that i'm looking for if anyone else has some ideas

-Rain Closing that works (I know right?)
-Stop Start Default Off turn on with Button
-Removing the NAR Headlight restrictions to the Dynamic lighting
-Anything else you think is cool.

Anyone know how to increase the idle speed? I've read you can increase it by 50 rpm or so. I'm thinking it might help for taking off in first gear smoothly, among other things.

I was also wondering if it was possible to change the settings for the ESC To the same ones as in the Golf R and possibly add “Race” to the mode selection like on the R.

Here are a couple more that I did on my 2018 Golf R. For some reason - I can't get the horn to beep on lock - it only beeps the second time I hit lock on my keyfob. Works for unlocking though.

Disable Seatbelt Warning

I have VCDS (bought the cable a long time ago when I purchased the MK6) and had tried a few tweaks. A strange thing is that some of the settings work intermittently, and I can't figure out what causes it to work or not work. For example, the staging setting of the dials was set on as default by the dealership (I presume), but works sometimes (usually when the car has been off for a long time); the last wipe of the windshield after using windshield washer works very infrequently, etc. In the MK6, the tweaks would work consistently.

I also tried the speed sign recognition setting, but it doesn't seem to work in US models, either because it doesn't work or because our signs do not follow international standards. I think the only tweaks I have now are the mirror dip (but I don't use it because the mirror doesn't go back to the original position), dial staging, and the last wipe. Thanks OP for starting this thread and will definitely follow it.

Did anyone ever figure out how to disable the North American headlight restrictions on the mk7.5 since the module you used to go into to do it on the mk7 is no longer applicable to the mk7.5?
