Unless you get an expensive "CEL-free" DP like an AWE, Neuspeed, or similar then yeah you will get a CEL for the O2 sensor. That's all though. The turbo will still spool better and you will gain power throughout the rev band (10, 15 HP w/o a Stage 2 tune), and you may even pick up 1 or 2 mpg on the highway.

You're totally good to install and drive around a few weeks until you get around to the tune.

Technically the Volkswagen will adjust the ECU enough where it will run great and likely pickup 15-25hp as stated. The downside is if they use a crappy cat I can almost guarantee cel issues, which will potentially cause issues with inspecting it, depending on your state. It will run great though and and some depth or 'bass' to your exhaust.

 

It's my understanding that pretty much all the aftermarket DPs are going to pop a CEL (without a tune), since they don't use a 400 cell cat. The O2 sensor is picking up that they are not efficient enough at filtering out emissions.

Should be totally fine! I've been running the unitronic catted downpipe with a o2 spacer to prevent the CEL.
Been running it for over 50,000km without a single CEL

I would just tune it but I don't wanna pay for a new clutch. Car definitely feels faster and sounds great even without the tune.

Most likely you will get CEL without tune. You might be able to get around it with an O2 spacer. If you can get your hands on a used AWE downpipe then you won't get a CEL even without a tune.

 

Recently put on a IE dp with a straight vibrant spacer here. No CEL so far.
