MKIII premium headunit in a MKII

538 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  timmybgood
I have the code for the premium radio. I hooked up all the stock connectors and everything seems to be fine. My question is how I put the code into the head unit. WHen I turn the knob to turn on the radio it doesn't 'code' or anything. I was wondering if you have to hit some buttons in sequence or something. Any help would be great.
Thanks

Re: MKIII premium headunit in a MKII (A2JET)

I am having exactly the same problem!
A friend of mine says that the only wire that is different is the "ALM" one in the A3s. He told me to supply 12V to that pin. It did nothing. So When I plug it in, I get a flashing red alarm light, if I turn on my parking lights, the illumination comes on.. etc.. I turn the knob and NOTHING different happens. No "SaFE", no clicks, no radio hiss. I would really like to get it working. All help is appreciated!

You have to hold down the left seek arrow for a bit... I think. Then you get to enter your code. I'll check my manual tomorrow, the car's outside and Im sick. *cough cough*

I finally figured out how to make it work. I am assuming that your car has no 'remote on.' Meaning that you can turn on your radio without having to put the key in the ignition. Because of this, you have to locate the positive 12v wire. I think it was red. Once you located it, get some wire and and jam it in, or splice it. Then route the wire the the MKIII deck's remote. On my wiring harness it was the thrid hole on the bottom. One way you can check this: turn the MKIII radio on, and try each of the holes in the harness. Once you see code appear, that is the right hole. Then jam it in that hole and you are done. After that plug the speaker harness into the MKIII deck. Then hold the mode and scan botton together for 3 seconds, input the code, and it should work. BTW: I had the AKTIV system so I decided to keep my stock MKII deck. The sound would only come out of one rear speaker. Hope this helps!

Re: MKIII premium headunit in a MKII (A2JET)

i believe the code was 4 digit, i sold my radio when i got a new HU and the manual went with it. i think you had to use the 1 2 3 4 5 6 buttons at the bottom, 1 for the first digit, 2 for the second etc. i think you just hit the 1 until you get the proper # for the first digit, then move on to next one, then you have to hit a button to accept it-but i forget what that was. i can't gaurentee how accurate any of this is, i could be completely full of crap, i can't remember, oh well, i tried
