Does anyone have a suspension install how-to? I have been reading over my Bentley manual and think I can do this myself, but an extra article/advice would help alot. Did a search and found one for Passats, but no MKIV.
Here's what I have:
Neuspeed Springs compressed onto the front Koni adjustable struts, Neuspeed springs for the rear.
The back I can handle no problem (no compressing needed), but I am shaky on the front install. Of course I know that the springs can cause serious injury to me if I don't know what I am doing, so I am not going to try this unless I FULLY understand how to do it.
From the manual it looks like the strut and spring come out in one piece. There are two bolts at the top of the strut tower (kind of stacked on top of one another), one that bolts the assembly to the tower and one that bolts the spring to the strut assembly. Now, if my springs are compressed onto the struts already, I would NOT need to compress them to install them, right?
If I am removing the stock strut/spring, as long as I ONLY unbolt the strut/spring assembly from the strut tower, will I need to compress the spring?
I am pretty handy and have done a number of mods to my car myself with the help of the Bentley and advice from this and other forums. Before my VW I had NEVER worked on any car and the more I do, the more comfortable I become with it, so please excuse any "non-technical" terms above!
Thanks in advance for your help!
