I've been curious about the different instrument clusters that VAG sends to various segments of its market. This question has also taken on a new degree of interest once we learned that some of the European, Canadian, and a few US-spect MkVIs have the 'H' cluster that supports Dial Staging (sweeping dials at startup). We know that 'H' clusters support this function, but I'd like to know a) do any other modules support staging, and b) are these unit making their way into or out of the US market?
I'd like to start a listing here for those that have ready access to VCDS, whether or not you are interested in staging dials, of what instrument cluster coding you have. Also, if you tried to activate instrument staging. Let's see if any patterns emerge.
Using VCVDS 912 Beta, select Module 17 - Instruments (J285)
Then read the part number for your cluster (top left dialog box).

I'll start things off:
US-spec vehicle
2010 GTi 2DR, 6MT
Build: 07/2009
VCDS 912.0 beta
Instrument cluster #: 5K6 920 970 G
Coding: 270D00
Activate Staging: Fail

Re: MkVI Instrument cluster - which one do you have? (JTwGTI)

I noticed if you replace the 5K6 920 970 G # with 5K0 920 970 G that is the part number for the clusters.
Might want to check if those who cant enable the sweep have outdated (older production) clusters.
http://www.magauto.com is a good source to check if part numbers are valid or discontinued... Just a hunch

Interesting - first vehicle built in 2010 that has the Q cluster...
I would post mine, but I do not have VAGCOM yet...

Looks like this isn't a simple coding issue. Some of the clusters that have active staging seem to have the same coding as those that don't.
