I'm getting my new 2001 Wolfie this Valentines and was wondering what you guys thing about mods. I was going to start with a Giac chip first, then some nice tires and next probably suspension b\c I'm sure I wont be satisfied with the stock sports suspension. I'd like to hear some advice from you guys. This is a well respected site and so are your opinions. Btw I was also thinking of putting on exhaust but I dont like loud, low rumble exhaust like most. I like quiet sleepers if you know what I mean. Thanks for any feedback.

As for the GIAC...good choice. For wheels and tires, I wouldn't go under 18s on an MKIV VW and as for suspension, do it right the first time and get GOOD coilovers like Bilstein PSS9s or H&Rs. As for the exhaust, if you want a quiet but nice exhaust, get a Remus...can get that from the dealer so it would be warrantied also!

Re: Mod Newbie, Ideas on modding my new 2001 WE (VWTornado)

Thanks for the advice guys. Giac chip probably by this summer. Nice set of tires and dont know about rims b\c I love the BBS on the WE. But I'll think about 18's if I do decide to get new rims VWTornado. As for Suspension next year, I'll probably be putting on the Shine kit. It's a 3 hour drive to the local dealer but I know it's well worth it. My friend's got 2000 VR6 and it's tight. My new addon probably in between sweet tires and after the chip is a divertor valve. I'm lookin to customize my car for my style, not to show off to the local kids in their 4 cyclinder hotrods with 18" WINGS. Hello wings are for airplanes. Just my opinion though. I think they look horrible. Thanks for the help.

Re: Mod Newbie, Ideas on modding my new 2001 WE (Wolf Le)

I have the APR, but like the GIAC. As long as you go with any of those two, then you're safe. As for susp., if you want to save some money there, go with a Weitec kit, it's a good deal and it's tight. I'd save the wheels for last, and 18's will make your car look sweet. Best of luck.
Re: Mod Newbie, Ideas on modding my new 2001 WE (Spiro SU)

Thanks Spiro for the advice. I'll look into the Weitec kit. Know of any local dealers. I see you're a New Yorker as well. Where bouts in LI? I know Eastern LI a little bit. Got any pics of yours? I'd love to see and know about anything you've done. Thanks again. Lata.
Re: Mod Newbie, Ideas on modding my new 2001 WE (Spiro SU)

hey, "well respected".....us?

GIAC is a good chip, I'd get a new diverter valve as well.
the suspension is ok, but it could be hella stiffer and the wheel gap is horendous. good luck with the new whip.

Re: Mod Newbie, Ideas on modding my new 2001 WE (craig20v)

- I planned on getting a divertor valve after I get the chip so I can feel the difference and be able to offer my opinion.
- As for the suspension needing to be stiffer, which suspension are you talking about craig20v? Original? Shine? Weitec?
- Any advice on which divertor valve? I was checking out AWE's.
- Btw does anyone know which 2001's got the AWW EC? I think mine's got it b\c it was built later in the year but I'm not sure. I'll have to check when I get her.

Re: Mod Newbie, Ideas on modding my new 2001 WE (BORA_WE)

Is it brand new? Or new to you? Curious to know if dealers still have any 2001s in stock.

Re: Mod Newbie, Ideas on modding my new 2001 WE (Wolf Le)

I was talkin about the stock suspension. I had the "sport suspension"
400 miles later I had the H&R Cup Kit, and now I have Weitec fully adjustables.
I would recco getting maybe a sport lowering setup if you don't want an aggressive drop. H&R & Bilsteins, Weitec TX/GT, etc. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

exhaust:
ive got the eurosport, and love it, not too loud, nice tone.
also see techtonics tuning.
these two seem to get the best performance per $.
however you can get similar gains (from what ive read here) with a good down pipe, (see the 1.8T forum) and it will keep your car just as quiet as it is now.
Re: Mod Newbie, Ideas on modding my new 2001 WE (craig20v)

autotech too http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif quiet, excellent build, great gains.
you can check in spare tire well fer yer engine code.

1 - Suspension
2 - Chip
3 - Wheels
I have yet to get a chip, I think that the suspension is more important. JMO

Re: Mod Newbie, Ideas on modding my new 2001 WE (craig20v)

Man there are so many different exhausts and I'm totally new to modding a car it's ridiculous. But I have lots of friends that know their poop. I'm having a hard time choosing. Sounds like there are a bunch of nice exhausts with good tones but how the heck do I find out what's good for me? Guess I'll have to keep doin research. I'd like good gain, not even sure what that is HP wise, quiet sounding, no loud roaring, cheezy high or low pitched buzzing noise. I soo hate the sound of the cars I hear on the road that are all "hooked up", that damn whizzing sound kills me. I'd rather have a quiet(sleeper), with decent gains, nice look(not omg that's HOT!), and a decent price, nothing like $800 like I've heard and seen worse. Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.

well... looks like im gonna have to bust this out: http://www.europeancarweb.com/archives/tech/1101_tech00.shtml
they tested like 13 exhausts. there are mp3 files of the sound, dynos, etc. one cool test. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I based my exhaust decision off of this article too. I decided on the Eurosport, and I must say that I cannot be any happier. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
