Monsoon: Bass Rattling at Moderate Volumes??

I just got my 2002 GTI a week ago, and I am unhappy with the Monsoon system! I'm not a crazy audiophile, and this isn't an outlandish problem!
Aside from the right-louder-than-left problem that people have been noticing too, I had this:
I also had another problem: playing Sarah McLachlan's "Remixed" at moderate volume (as well as almost all my other CDs) causes the right side to rattle on the thumps! The technician told me that it may just be the limitation of the speakers, since they are stock.
Problem is, it's the damn MONSOON system! It shouldn't conk out at that level! Anyone have this problem? Any solutions? The tech guy told me VW already padded that panel with foam, so there wasn't a whole lot I could do to fix it; I'd just have to live with it.
I told him I'd give it another week to try to pinpoint the problem, but I want this damn thing fixed.
